Questions Answered About Cosmetic Dentistry

If you aren't happy with the appearance of your smile, it doesn't have to stay that way. With modern dentistry, there are many ways a dentist can help you change your smile into something you are confident to show any time you please. We believe you should be able to flash your smile without giving a second thought to what anyone else is thinking about your teeth. At Valley Dental Care, we can sit down with you and help you figure out which procedures can help you attain the appearance you want. Here are some of the procedures we can take to help you.

Invisalign Clear Braces

Many adults are self-conscious that their teeth are crooked. Whether they had braces as children and the correction shifted back over time or they never had the chance to have braces when they were young, they start considering orthodontics later on in life. However, adult braces can be intimidating and many adults don't want to deal with the appearance of traditional braces. Not to mention, traditional orthodontics affect your ability to eat certain foods and have more risk of injury, especially if you play sports or are very active. Invisalign is a clear braces system that doesn't require seeing an orthodontist. We can do your Invisalign treatments right here in our office.

Invisalign is a set of clear mouth guards that are made for one or both sets of teeth, depending on what changes you want to see. We make the aligners for your mouth specifically and you wear them as often as you can—20-22 hours a day. Invisalign can fix gapped teeth, overbites, underbites, open bites, cross bites, and crowded teeth.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are custom-made to be bonded with your natural tooth. The are not meant to correct a rotted tooth but rather change its appearance and increase its strength. Most commonly, people get veneers for cosmetic reasons to make their teeth whiter, fix irregular shaped, broken, chipped, or worn down teeth, or fill small gaps between teeth. Since this is largely a cosmetic procedure it's important for you to explain to the dentists exactly what your goals are so we achieve the appearance you desire.

As part of the process, we may take x-rays of your teeth to make sure they are healthy enough for veneers. We would hate to put a veneer over any decay because the tooth would continue to rot underneath the veneer. Veneers are then fitted and bonded to your teeth and last 5-10 years.

Teeth Whitening

There are many ways to whiten your teeth from home like over-the-counter toothpastes, whitening strips, trays, and home remedies as well. However, if you want the quickest and most effective whitening, we can perform an in-office treatment to do the job. In-office whitening is definitely the best route to take if you have heavy staining from age, tobacco, or drinks like coffee, red wine, and soda. Our dentists will use a peroxide gel on your teeth for 15-30 minute intervals then shine a laser on your teeth to increase the whitening. Teeth whitening performed in-office produces results in just one visit, although teeth with heavy staining usually need more than one treatment.
