Veeners and Ceramic Laminates

Veneers are thin custom made shells of ceramic material that are bonded to the front and some times to the back of the teeth. They are usually made of tooth colored porcelain material to create a natural bright smile. They are excellent alternatives to crowns as they are conservative and yet eliminate the basic problem.

They are usually recommended when there are spaces between teeth, badly stained teeth, teeth with huge discolored fillings, broken or chipped teeth, uneven or crooked teeth.

This procedure usually takes two visits. During the first visit a small amount of tooth structure is removed & impressions are made. The wafer-thin porcelain is then custom-designed to fit naturally and perfectly over each individual problem tooth in the lab. During the second visit the veneers are placed on the teeth to check the fit and color if the patient and the doctor are satisfied with the look and fit they are bonded on the teeth.

Porcelain veneers are stable and last longer than regular bonding and do not require extensive dental preparation or filing. Veneers resist discoloration and with proper care will not chip or break like enamal. They make a dramatic, immediate difference to your smile and self-esteem. Care should be taken not to bite nails, chew on pencils, ice or other hard objects, or put unnecessary pressure on your teeth, because veneers are bonded and may under sever pressure come off.
